She went to Millsaps in Jackson and lived in the dorm.   He attended Ole Miss in Oxford and visited by hitch-hiking. At one point, she broke up with him because they were so very young.  He walked away very sad, and she watched him from the balcony overlooking the street.  Seeing his disheartened shuffle convinced her that she did love him after all.
