Help me name that movie

It had to have been made before 1964, and in fact could have been made in the 40's or 50's.

I first saw it in black and white, though I don't know now if that was because I watched it on a black and white television, or it was made that way.

It is set in a remote part of North America, like Newfoundland or somewhere similar. There are icebergs.

The story line follows a group of deep-water commercial fishermen (deep sea boats about the size and character of a tug boat).

The crisis involves the danger posed to the fishing fleet by a 100 foot tall glacier that was the source of falling ice (creating the icebergs) in the bay outside the fishing village.

The ending involves the moody leading actor who started out as someone who you didn’t like, but who ultimately became the hero and saved the fleet, maybe the village and certainly the girl by sailing up to the glacier and blasting his horn.

The ice fell.

He died.

What’s the name of that movie?
