We watched Kris Kristofferson up close and personal as he played to an intimate crowd of about 2 thousand or so (every tier of the Bass Hall, usually used for opera or musicals, was filled).
His show featured a mix of some old, recognizable tunes (like "Me 'n Bobby McGee"), and some cuts from his relatively new album.
"Cow Town" was his first stop on a US tour following a several concerts throughout Europe, and the crowd of old hipsters was so enthusiastic, he commented that FW should have been his last stop because no other city will be able to match the energy.
Youngest, Oldest and I sat on the fourth row, and it was just like having him in your living room.
Part of the informality arose from the fact that he played his acoustic guitar with one other acoustic guitar player, otherwise, there was no backup band. And as you might expect, he doesn’t do much more than just strum his guitar and sing, but then, its not the fretwork that's moving in his work, it’s the stories in the songs.
Through the course of the concert, he made several direct references to being much older and wiser (read "tamer") and teased when he sang some of his older and wilder lyrics to change them to suit his life style now. For instance, in one song he sang “I don’t care what’s right or wrong,” and after he sang that line, he stopped, looked up and said, “well, yeah, I really do.”
We had a great time.
